Since 2015 New Leaf Running Company has been providing science based endurance coaching to runners of all abilities, with a focus on trail running and ultra distances.
Coach Rick’s main goal is to empower athletes with the knowledge to train smarter. There is a lot more to training than just the physical programming. The mental and emotional aspects are a huge part, as well as creating routines and plans. A solid coaching program covers more than just a training plan, it includes planning for future training, goals, events, race strategy, equipment, and nutrition.
While New Leaf Run Co primarily focuses on running, both road and trail, Coach Rick is well versed in coaching the multi sport athlete with experience coaching both bikers and triathletes in running.
“Over the years, the athletes who I see have the most fun during their training and progress the most in their running are the ones who come to the sport with a sense of curiosity. The most important thing I can do for my athletes is to allow them to explore their abilities, and help them incorporate running into their lives in a sustainable way. Meaning their happiness comes first, and we figure out how to fit the training around everything else.”
I have been an athlete and a coach from an early age. I started competing in sprint canoeing and coached athletes at my home paddling club. In 2013 I started taking my running hobby seriously and quickly jumped from 10k races to 100-mile ultra marathons. Along the way, I learned that while there is a lot of information out there about running and training plans you can get for free, but there is a more efficient and enjoyable way to train. Currently, I work with a wide range of athletes from brand new runners to seasoned veterans tackling races distances from 5km to 100 miles and everything in-between.
